Do I have to wait 5 years after giving anything away to get Medicaid?
You may have to wait five years if you’ve given away assets that cannot be returned. However, there are certain assets that if you give them away to a spouse or a special needs child or a caregiver that’s living with you, for example the home, that asset doesn’t have to be returned and you can still qualify for Medicaid and apply for Medicaid and receive that. Typically, you have to review everything that you’ve given away during that five year period to determine if you’re Medicaid eligible to apply.
