When should an estate plan be reviewed?

I suggest that you have your estate plan reviewed every few years, at the very least. Things change in your life. When there is a life changing event, like a death, it’s definitely a time in your life when you should have your estate planning documents reviewed. Maybe you lose a spouse, maybe you lose a child that you’ve designated to serve as an agent or a fiduciary under your documents, at that particular time you should have your documents reviewed to have those particular people that you’ve now lost replaced with other people that you trust.

In reviewing those documents maybe you’re going to consider determining whether or not you have long-term care options in place. If you don’t then that’s a good time to have your estate plan documents reviewed, to preserve those assets for your use and as well as obtaining future long-term care benefits, should you need them
